Kip Aider - Book Launch

Kip Aider is the pen name Frances Prentice uses when she creates books in collaboration with young authors. Kip stands for Kids In Print.

Frances worked with a group of four young people in 2022 in a writing group. Together they created a story of two guinea pigs with super powers, an ordinary kid who likes watching soccer and a famous soccer coach. Introduce some evil cats and you have yourself a real adventure story. It took a year to write and edit the story around a kitchen table before school once a week. The kids did an amazing job of maintaining their enthusiasm to the end, creating a very enjoyable read. They were in Year 5 when they wrote it, and the story best suits children aged 6-12. It is a junior chapter book but may appeal to some upper grade students as well.

We are launching the book, Guinea Pig League: Captured! at some local events for Book Week 2024 (August 17-23). As the guinea pigs have super powers and the cats perform amazing stunts, it fits with this years theme: Reading is Magic.

Frances has created some teacher notes that are available on the website as a PDF. These provide some ideas for teaching narrative structure to students who are creating stories either individually or collaboratively. And there is a Q and A section for children to examine the narrative structure of Guinea Pig League: Captured!
